Natural or green burial is a way of burying the dead that supports an unimpeded, uninhibited, natural process of decomposition, a return of an un-embalmed body to the earth as directly as possible, without cement vaults or liners and using only biodegradable materials. Natural burial is what our ancient ancestors would have simply called ‘burial’.
A natural burial cemetery offers an alternative to conventional death care industry practices, inviting community participation, a spirit of freedom of ceremony and ritual at the gravesite, and a unique participation of loved ones. Memorialization is usually simple, environmentally friendly, and often communal.
A ‘conservational’ natural burial ground aims to provide perpetual restoration and conservation to the land’s native ecological environment. The human bodies contribute to the health of the soil and encourages native species, flora and fauna alike, which benefits the land and surrounding areas for future generations.
En Terre Outaouais Natural Burial is a volunteer group of citizens who are working together to establish a conservational natural burial cemetery in this region of Québec. En Terre Outaouais Natural Burial acknowledges the natural cycles of life on the land and, in a reciprocal relationship, hopes to honour the generosity of the earth by giving our bodies back to the ground at the end of life.
En Terre Outaouais Natural Burial acknowledges the unceded Algonquin ancestral homelands of the Anishinabe nation.
